Rise Up School Milk Program Reaches 5,400 students within 3 months from the launch on 05th October 2022
Building milk-drinking habits among children in schools can be a valuable way to support their overall health and nutrition. Milk is a nutritious beverage that is a good source of protein, calcium, and other essential nutrients, and it can be an important part of a child’s diet.
Rise Up School Milk Program now offers a cup of milk, 3 times a week in 31 schools covering over 5,400 students. Since its launch on the 05th of October 2005, the program has offered over 75,000 cups of milk and has purchased over 10,000 liters of milk directly from the farmers.
Rise Up School Milk Program expects to expand its coverage and footprint by strengthening the supply chain to reach more schools in 2023. Rise Up School Milk Program which aims to increase the nutrient density of Rise Up intervention by providing a cup of milk for children in the Rise Up program during school days, also aims to improve the sustainability and quality of milk production, as well as support farmers.
By sourcing milk directly from farmers, the program can reduce the carbon footprint of milk production by cutting out intermediaries and the transportation needed to bring milk from farms to processing plants. This can also help to improve the quality of the milk, as it can be collected and served more quickly, reducing the risk of spoilage. Additionally, by providing a direct market for farmers’ milk, the program can help to improve their income and strengthen their economic viability.
With this model, the Rise Up Milk Program aims to contribute to a more sustainable and equitable food system that can stimulate the revitalization of the rural economy which is still struggling for survival amidst the financial crisis and feedstock shortage.
