Building a Community Based Supply Chain for School Meals
Rise Up is working to establish a sustainable and community-based food supply chain for its school meal program in order to improve food security and combat malnutrition among children. To do this, the organization is connecting local farmers who are parents of Rise Up school students with the program as dedicated producers, and also encouraging mothers to start their own small-scale agricultural ventures to supplement family income.
This approach not only provides fresh and healthy food for the school meal program, but also creates a more financially stable environment for families to afford other necessities and school supplies for their children.
Mushroom Cultivation Project
Mushroom cultivation can play an important role in addressing malnutrition and supporting local economies. Mushrooms are a highly nutritious protein source and are rich in essential vitamins and minerals. They are also relatively easy to grow, making them a viable option for small-scale farmers and even individuals looking to grow their own food. Cultivating mushrooms can also be a sustainable and low-impact way to produce food, as they require less land, water, and other resources compared to other protein sources such as meat.
Rise Up is incorporating Mushroom cultivation as a tool to combat malnutrition amidst the sharp increase of price of protein rich foods in Sri Lanka.
Egg Production Drive
